Dover Quartet & Leif Ove Andsnes: A Stellar Night at SOKA
04.12.24
The renowned Dover Quartet, recognized with a GRAMMY® nomination, will grace the stage alongside Norway's acclaimed pianist and GRAMMY® nominee, Leif Ove Andsnes, for an enchanting evening of music. Set for April 26 at 8 p.m. at the SOKA Performing Arts Center, this event is a highlight of their brief tour, which also features stops at celebrated venues like the Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall. Expect a remarkable fusion of talents in this limited engagement.
Established in 2008 at the esteemed Curtis Institute of Music, the Dover Quartet has been lauded as one of the finest string quartets of the past century by BBC Music Magazine, and dubbed “the next Guarneri Quartet” by the Chicago Tribune. The Strad magazine has commended them for their “exceptional interpretative maturity, tonal refinement, and taut ensemble.”
This season is particularly noteworthy as it marks Julianne Lee's debut as the quartet's violist. Remarkably, Lee is not only a seasoned violist but also holds positions as the assistant principal second violin with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and principal second violin with the Boston Pops Orchestra, showcasing her versatile talent across both instruments.
The evening's program will feature:
- Selections from Johannes Brahms' Fantasies, Op. 116 for solo piano.
- Ernő Dohnányi's Piano Quintet No. 2 in E-flat minor, Op. 26, encompassing movements from Allegro non troppo to Moderato - Tempo del primo pezzo.
- Following an intermission, Brahms' Piano Quintet in F minor, Op. 34 will be performed, from the Allegro non troppo to the Finale: Poco sostenuto.
Ticket prices are as follows:
- Regular tickets range from $35 to $85.
- Discounted rates for seniors (62+), students, and military personnel are between $31.50 and $76.50.
- The event also offers complimentary parking, located on University Drive in Aliso Viejo, CA 92656.
